Swimming

Swimming

If you prefer water, you can choose swimming. There are public, open (outdoor) swimming pools at the end of the Big Park. There are a few of them. The samll one for babies and toddlers. The medium-sized with a slide one for semi-swimmers, the Olympic -sized one for swimmers and the one with the diving-board for the good swimmers who want to have fun.

There's another pool in the other part of Kragujevac for the ones who don't like crowd. It's just one pool, with a lot of shade (forest).

If you want to improve your swimming styles or to practice it, there's a great club called "Delfin" (Dolphin). They have a school of swimming for all ages and the've got a club for childen 7 to 14. They've been very successful. They won a lot of medals at international competitions.

Unfortunately, there's no indoor public swimming pool in the town. But there are ones in two primary schools. They're mainly used by the studemts and the "Delfin" but you can pay and go there for a swim.

The authorities promise to have a public indoor swimming pool built by the end of 2008.

Skating

Skating

Well, it's winter time so, let's begin with a winter sport. It doesn't matter if you're young or old, if you are on the ice for the first time or you exactly know how to do it, you can go to the ice rink and have great fun. You can always meet some new people there or you can try some new figures. Well, for the time being there's just one ice rink in the town. But is it imoprtant? Obviously not. Everybody's there: grandaparents with their grandchildren, parents with their children, parents without children, children without parents, students... And they all enjoy it. Well not all. The ones waiting by the rink are usually frozen. But there's a cafe for them to sit and have a hot cup of tea or coffee... And if they don't want to... Well, that's up to them :)

Mountain climbing

Mountain climbing

For the ones who like nature, the great opportunity to travel and enjoy it is a mountin climbing club called "Zezelj". Sumadija is full of beautiful mountains. Some of them are somewhat urban and some are wild. Every week, mountain climbers go to one of the mountains. It's a great opportunity to spend a day in wilderness and breathe pure air. A doctor once told me that one day in a mountain was like seven days in a spa. You change your blood completely.

At the bottom of each mountain there's a monastery. In some of them, monks and nuns prepare a meal for starving mountain climbers. Sometimes, you just visit them, or you have a cup of coffee there.

One of interesting things is to meet people who live on the mountains, espacially if you're lucky to be invited to their houses.

So, if you want to spend a relaxing day, not worrying about the time, join the mountain climbers.

Fishing

Fishing

I bet you've rarely seen something like this! A lake in the centre of the town. Well, if you get tired of crowd and everyday rush, we recommend you a few hours by the lake. The part of the town the lake is situated in is called Bubanj and it's the very centre of the town. But, when you come to the lake, you forget it. It's surrounded by a forest and it's a quiet place. There's a lot of shadow if you want to escape from the sun.

If you don't like fishing but prefer just some quiet time, there's an ethno restaurant where you can have something to eat or just to have a cup of coffee. Or, you can just sit on a bench and look at the calming water.

If your children get bored, don't worry, there are some see-saws and slides for them as well.

And a couple of metres away is a big shopping centre, a skate rink and the life of the centre.

You can't have a swim in the lake, indeed, but here is a great opportunity for you to calm your nerves.
